Your digital camera can uncover beauty and wonder that your naked eye could never see. If you’re open-minded, photography can help you to replace your apprehensions or perhaps even lack of appreciation for nature with a new-found admiration.
Even a novice photographer can take spectacular pictures after learning a few simple steps. All it takes is an everyday camera and a little time. The time to look around, that is! Have you ever looked around your own backyard? I mean, really looked around? You might be amazed at the amount of photo-worthy subjects to choose from.
When I first started taking pictures of plants and insects, I thought I was just looking to capture beautiful and/or interesting moments. Maybe they’d make nice gifts (and they do!). Or maybe, they’ll look nice on my own walls. However, when I uploaded the images on my computer, seeing them in large scale, I realized that the pictures had much more to say then, “I’m neat!”
What I learned was that there are tiny details, literally and figuratively-speaking, that my eye didn’t detect. This ignited a curiosity in me. I wanted to learn more and more about the things I was photographing. In turn, I started to photograph things that I was curious about.
